Calgary Young People’s Theatre is accepting applications from professional directors for our upcoming season of plays. Applicants are encouraged to apply for one of the two following opportunities:
- Mainstage – a full length production for youth performers. Mainstage productions are supported by a team of professional designers, stage managers, fight choreographers, etc. Our mainstage shows rehearse over three months with one weekday evening rehearsal and one weekend daytime rehearsal per week (eg. Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons) leading up to full-time hours in the week before tech. Examples of past productions include: Macbeth, The Three Musketeers, Unity (1918), and several new works.
- Library tour – a 45 minute long touring play for youth performers. Mainstage productions are supported by an emerging stage manager, and are designed to tour to Calgary Public Libraries. This play rehearses over two months with one weekday evening rehearsal and one weekend daytime rehearsal per week (eg. Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons).
To see photos from past productions, visit our gallery. For a full list of past productions, click here. Past directors have included wonderful artists like Christian Goutsis, Nicola Elson, Mike Griffin, Kelly Reay, Brian Dorscht, Anton Degroot, and many more.
CYPT strives to create a professional environment for our youth performers, so we are seeking applications from directors with a professional background and directing experience. Both of the above opportunities are paid contracts at rates commensurate with applicant experience and industry standards.
Interested applicants are asked to submit a resume and letter of interest to Artistic Producer Jamie Dunsdon at cypt@cypt.ca
