July YP of the Month
We’ve had two creation workshops for our new devised play coming this August, The War of the Worlds Project, and we’re already sure it’s going to be a blast. We’re also so excited to welcome back some old CYPT hats into the show, as well as some newcomers to our little family. One of our veterans is actually still pretty young, and so we’re really delighted with all the wonderful work she’s doing and to celebrate her as July’s YP of the Month. She’s been doing shows with us for years, and what astounds us is how much she grows from show to show, rehearsal to rehearsal – it’s spellbinding to watch. She is talented, brave, and so, so smart and we’re very lucky to have her! And who is this positive and perfectly plucky performer of people?
July’s YP of the Month is none other than,
Mya Welsh!!!
Mya is very honored to be chosen to be CYPT’s young person of the month! Mya started participating in CYPT summer camps when she was 11 and liked them so much she played in two CYPT library shows – Weaving Yarns and Poetically Poetical. Mya especially loved the process of writing, blocking and performing these original shows. Mya’s first full production was Richard III. With a real audience, a real theatre and a wonderfully adapted script, Mya was hooked! Mya’s most recent performance was as the female lead in Village of Idiots. This was a tremendous experience for her as she was not used to being one of the main characters and it helped her step out of her comfort zone and rise to the challenge that came with the role.
Acting is now Mya’s passion and she has decided to pursue it further by enrolling in the Performing and Visual Arts program at Central Memorial High school. Mya has also decided to beat up…err…learn how to stage fight with her little sister Gillian in the CYPT Stage Combat Camp this summer. Mya is so grateful that CYPT has helped her grow as an actor and a person and is proud to consider CYPT as part of her family! Mya always feels welcome and loved in the company of the other cast and crew and can’t wait for rehearsal to begin for War of the Worlds!
“I love acting because I can explore different perspectives on life and the world through my characters.”
