May YP of the Month
May’s YP of the Month is…
Violet Griffiths!!!

Like many CYPT kids, Violet started off as an “awkward” [editor’s note: her word, not ours!] little baby acting her heart out at summer camp. Then, when she was an awkward little 8th grader, she finally worked up the courage to audition and was cast in The Importance Of Being Earnest! After that came Wayward, where Violet would find herself co-writing and performing a live musical score with the endlessly talented Nora-Jane Bonner. The summer after that, Violet played the sweet and enthusiastic Lady Bud in A Play About A Dragon. Then came an incredibly fun ensemble role in Runs In The Family, which was unfortunately cut short by, you know, that thing that happened in March 2020. With live theatre cancelled due to the pandemic, Violet had an adventure in voice acting with the wacky audio play Echo Chamber. She just recently made her return to the stage, playing the troubled tour guide Lillian and laundromat grandma Gladys in the double-bill Friends Of Mine and The Tuesday Crew.
With six shows now under her belt, Violet is all grown up and will be attending the University of Victoria next fall! She is equal parts terrified of the future and eternally grateful for the wonderful friends and mentors she’s acquired during the chapter of her life spent with CYPT. From being a lonely middle-schooler to a 12th grader now approaching adulthood, theatre has been one of the greatest sources of joy in Violet’s life. She can’t wait to see what CYPT’s younger generations will create in the future.
“The ironic thing about acting is what we can learn about ourselves by pretending to be other people.”
Violet Griffiths
