Will my child be put in groups of children who are much older or younger than they are?

The first day of camp, children are separated into groups according to their age or grade in school. Our student to teacher ratio is approximately 12:1 for full day drama camp and 8:1 for half day drama camps.  If your child wants to be in the same group as a friend, please let our staff know on the first day of camp!

What do the children do all day?

The day starts out with an entire group warm-up led by one of our instructors. Then your children are off to workshops in the morning covering various theatrical skills and activities.  Workshops may be centered on acting, movement, auditioning, character creation, improvisation, or more!  In the afternoons, children will spend time with one instructor developing a play that is created by the children and performed at the end of the week for friends and family. During lunch, everyone goes outside for supervised play, relaxation, games and fresh air. At the end of the day, the entire camp comes back together for drama Olympics!

Half day campers spend their morning or afternoon with one instructor and a camp assistant, learning various theatrical skills that culminate in a presentation for friends and family.

If your teen is in either the improv camp, stage make-up, musical theatre, or stage combat camps, they will be spending all week exploring various aspects of the specific camp through exercises, games, skill building and practical application.

Who are your staff members and instructors?

Summer drama camp instructors include professional actors, writers, directors, and teachers with university and college degrees and post secondary students. We also hire CYPT alumni to work as camp assistants, coordinators or assistant instructors. All of our instructors have a passion for theatre and working with youth! All instructors are required to get a Police Security Clearance Check prior to the start of camp.

Is there childcare available before or after camp?

Yes, typically we offer pre-camp care starting at 8am and post-camp care until 5:30pm at our North and Riverbend locations. Pre/post-care options are not available in our West or CKE locations.   All pre and post camp care is $5.00 per session per child. Payment can be made during registration for a full week of pre and/or post-care, or in-person on a daily basis.

Is lunch available at the camps?

CYPT is pleased to offer our lunch program of healthy snacks and hot lunches at our North and South Riverbend locations to keep your child energized and to stimulate their creativity! CYPT offers parents the option of paying for their child’s lunch and snacks in advance. For $60.00 a week, your child can choose a snack at morning and afternoon break. At lunch they may select any menu item of their choice with a side of veggies, a snack, and a drink.  Note: the lunch program  is not available at the CKE or West Locations.  Click here to learn more.

Can my teenager leave campus at lunch time?

Yes, if permission is granted by the parents of the student.  You may give permission during the registration process by checking the appropriate box, however if you missed that, please bring a note granting your child permission on the first day of camp. We will also have permission forms available on the first day of camp.

Do you offer bursary programs?

Yes we do! CYPT has a strong bursary program that offers lower income families a chance to apply to have assistance in paying for program fees. Please email admin@cypt.ca to request a bursary application or for more information.
