It’s spring! Or at least it SHOULD be spring! In any case, we’re in a cheerful humour here at CYPT, and are once again thrilled to honour a member of our community. Currently rocking the stage in this spring’s outlandish, outrageous outpatient collective show, this month’s YP is as bubbly and delightful as the season we now find ourselves in. We give you:
Abbey Mattson!!!
Abbey has been with CYPT for less then a year, joining in her last year of high school! Although being with them for a shorter period of time, she has made many special connections and feels that she has found her forever theatre home.
Abbey has been in two whole MainStage shows, her first one being Romeo and Juliet, adapted and directed by talented Jamie Dunsdon, and most recent being My Own Person Hell, written by the 2025 Outpatient collective and directed by the glorious Kristin Eveleigh! She is very grateful for the immense knowledge and experience, and meaning to her acting career that she has gained from just the two shows.
When Abbey is not frolicking about on stage, she figure skates and plays her little tenor saxophone in her schools Symphonic and Jazz band! She impulsively joined band in grade 12 as she wanted to hold a big piece of metal that makes loud boom. You can imagine how glorious it is for everyone around her. Abbey has done many a hobbies, such as dance, horse back riding, swimming, you name it she’s done it! But Abbey feels that she officially associates with theatre as her true passion.
Abbey is attending the University of Calgary for the 2026 fall semester, majoring in Music, as that sounded cool on the final admission submission page and she couldn’t find the drama option. She did not read what a music major even looks like at the UofC. Silly Abbey. But she is excited to be staying in Calgary and hopefully working getting the opportunity to work further with CYPT, and stay within this splendorous, wonderful tight knit community. By the way, Abbeys favourite colour is purple, for all who were curious.
“What’s your beef, stew?” – Abbey Mattson
