October YP of the Month
We are a mere two weeks away from opening our first of two fall 2017 productions, Unity (1918) and our cast is working hard! One of the performers in this cast has been around CYPT for years, but this show will mark her first lead performance and we can’t wait to see how she tackles that challenge. Playing the strange and awkward Icelandic undertaker, Sunna, our October YP has been exploring the fertile ground of this script with precision and poise and we know opening night will be an exciting one! And who is this thoroughly thoughtful thespian thirsting for theatrical thrills?
October’s YP of the Month is none other than,
Isabel Born!!!
Meet Isabel. Everyone at CYPT calls her Isa. She plays violin and viola, takes lessons in aikido and lives inside her head. She’s been a part of CYPT for a pretty long time. It all started when Isa was 10. She saw A Little Princess at CYPT and was in awe at the performance. It was magic. That fall, she decided she wanted to be part of that magic. Isa attended a workshop and auditioned for CYPT, landing her a role in her first library show Weaving Yarns. There she met many incredible actors, many of whom she still acts with today. She was less than 5ft tall, she had a half sized violin and her voice was much higher.
A lot has changed, and a lot has stayed the same. CYPT continues to be the friendly place it was when she was 10. She calls CYPT her second family. Fast forward a couple years, and she is 14. She’s now in Grade 10, she’s had a full sized violin for two years and she’s grown both physically and mentally. Isa has been in two main stage productions since then, Village of Idiots and The Three Musketeers and yet another library show Poetically Poetical: Kilometre Stones. Isa also attended the stage makeup camp in the summer of 2014. Isa would like to thank the amazing directors she has worked with over the years, they have taught her so much about being an actor.
“Everyday I grow a little bit as an actor and as a person. Acting is finding that bridge between a character’s emotions and my own. I develop a new mindset. I store it in the back of my mind so I can use it on the days when I can’t escape my own thoughts.” – Isabel Born
Isa is currently in rehearsals for Unity (1918) and the second crunch week is quickly approaching. This show holds a lot of firsts for her. A bigger role, stage kisses and a more intense rehearsal schedule. She is so grateful for this opportunity and hopes everyone comes to see Unity (1918).
Isa has made so many memories at CYPT and hopes to continue doing so in seasons to come.
