FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR SUMMER DRAMA CAMPS

Here are answers to some questions commonly asked by parents:

Where are the camps located?

Calgary north (July 5 to 30)
Unitarian Church of Calgary,
1703-1st Street NW, Calgary
(Corner 16th Avenue and 1st Street NW)

Calgary south (August 2 to 27)
The Riverbend Community Association
19 Rivervalley Drive S.E.
(Just southeast of Glenmore and Deerfoot)

What are the camp hours?

Full-day:    9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. lunch between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Half-day:    9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Will my child be put in groups of children who are much older or young than they are?

The first day of camp the children are separated into groups according to their age or grade in school.  Our student to teacher ratio is 12:1 for full day drama camps and 8:1 for half day drama camps.

What do the children do all day?

Half the day is spent working in various skill development workshops such as voice, movement, play-writing, mime, improvisation and character work.  The other half of the day is spent developing a play with a director that is created by the children, and is performed at the end of the week.  Theatre games provide recreational fun, and everyone goes outside at lunch for supervised play, relaxation, games and fresh air!  This is our 17th year of providing drama camps of the highest quality to Calgary’s youth, making us one of the longest running camps in the city.

Who are your staff members?

Summer drama camp instructors include professional actors, writers, directors; teachers with university or college degrees; and senior college and university students. We also hire students with drama backgrounds to work as camp assistants.

Is there childcare available before or after the camp?

Yes, we offer pre-camp care from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and post-camp care from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. We do not offer post-care for the half day camp.  All pre and post camp care is $3.00 per session per child.

Is lunch available at the camps?

CYPT is offering parents the option of paying for their child’s lunch and snacks in advance. For $30.00 per week, your child can choose a snack or drink at morning break. At lunch, they may select any menu item of their choice, a drink and a snack. And finally at afternoon break they can choose a final snack or drink. It’s a great value and it couldn’t be easier for parents!
