Calgary Young People’s Theatre is thrilled to be teaming up with one of England`s largest and most respected theatre companies to present The Identity Project. August 5-6, 2010 at the Engineered Air Theatre young actors from CYPT and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre are coming together to present a world premiere production that examines just what it means to be a youth in Canada and England respectively. The two day performance run will be the culmination of the first year of this two year international cultural exchange between the two companies.
On August 6, at 6 p.m. both companies will be hosting a fundraiser gala. The family-friendly evening will feature a performance of The Identity Project, a performance by the Improv Guild featuring Artistic Director Mat Mailandt, games and a dance. This evening will jump start the fundraising effort to bring CYPT’s students to Birmingham next summer to perform a show at The Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Mat Mailandt, Artistic Director of CYPT is thrilled to be a part of this ground breaking cultural exchange:
“In the eighteen year history of Calgary Young People’s Theatre, never have we been part of an international collaboration. This project will expose our students to new theatre, new artists, and new cultural horizons. We are honoured to be partnering with a mainstay of England’s theatre community. This two-day production should not be missed.”
