Katie Ouriou and her family were very active at Calgary Young People's Theatre in the first four years of our company history. Katie participated in several drama classes and in several of our productions including Alice and King of the Castle.

In 1996, Katie and her family moved to Paris for a year-long sabatical, but within 3 months, she contacted a rare form of leukemia and died suddenly just before her 17th birthday.

Calgary Young People's Theatre named a scholarship in memory of Katie, and gives a junior high student in Calgary a full bursary to one of our summer drama programs annually.
